Boonah State High School Cattle Club

School Program

Since 2023 Boonah State High School's Cattle Club has partnered with Talgai Santa Gertrudis.

This collarboration has opened up numerous opportunities and achievements for students within the show circuit. Our support including the donation of high-quality stud cattle has enabled students to gain valuable hands on experience. Students have prepared and exhibited cattle at a range of local shows and major events such as the EKKA.

Our partnership has allowed students to immerse themselves in the world of stud cattle showing. Students have learnt essential skills such as halter breaking, grooming, leading and presenting cattle in the ring. Beyond the show ring, students have also benefitted from insightful talks delivered by industry professionals and Talgai Team Members as well as observing the breed classification first hand. These experiences have deepened their understanding of cattle breeding standards and the importance of structure and temperament in stud cattle selection.

A highlight for many has been attending the junior camp in Warwick, where students have built lasting connections with the Santa Gertrudis breed and its supportive community. The Cattle Club also attended the 2025 Brisbane Valley Sale at Toogoolawah where Talgai Umpire (P), a bull they halter broke and exhibited was sold, a proud moment that reflects the student's dedication and hard work.

We look forward to continuing this partnership as it continues to grow into the future.

Throughout these opportunities, Boonah State High School students have not only developed practical agricultural skills but also built confidence, developed teamwork and discovered a passion for the beef industry.
